Joan Van Kuijck
Like all women on the land, Joan probably under-estimates her talents! For four decades she has provided teaching and educational opportunities to students and adults in regional and remote communities in Qld and the NT. Her passion for the land stems from her early upbringing in western Qld and her desire to improve educational and technological opportunities for those living west of the Great Divide has seen her combine her two great loves in life – imparting knowledge and looking after the land.
Apart from classroom and administration roles in private, state school and TAFE systems, Joan has authored a number of historical books as well as business and communication textbooks for Qld high school students. She has conducted basic, intermediate and advanced computing courses for TAFE, Main Roads, Feedlots and Landcare groups throughout Qld, and she now designs and runs websites for a number of private rural enterprises.
Joan has always been a steward for local show societies, has her own farm in the North East Landcare area, and currently volunteers her technical expertise for a number of local community groups such as the Maclagan Squeezebox Festival, the Bell Birdwatching Group and various rural Men’s Sheds.
