The theme for this year’s Nicki Laws Landcare category was “Making a Difference”. There were seven very worthy entries which illustrate how people from all walks of life are making a positive difference in their community’s natural environment.
Entries showcased projects such as flood mitigation, weed eradication and restoration of native habitat, establishment and maintenance of conservation parks, recording, identifying and sharing knowledge of invertebrate biodiversity in urban parks, implementation of indigenous land management practices, in particular, cool burns.
The winner, and recipient of the 2020 Nicki Laws Perpetual Trophy was Sue Huston with her visual representation of the work being carried out by Allora Landcare Group in Allora Mtn. Flora and Fauna Reserve. The Allora Landcare Group has also published a booklet on the birds of Allora Mountain, which as a great record of the biodiversity in this special place. Betty Richter, friend of Nicki Laws and member of Oakey Urban Landcare, presented the trophy to Sue Huston (with Max's assistance).
